Deciding what to wear for your High school senior photography session makes the difference between your pictures looking outstanding not just now but 20 years from now. These are just a few tips on clothing, style, and makeup to help you feel and look your best at your senior session!
So here are my general pointers for what to wear:
Girls
What to wear
Anything goes! Bring a variety of colors, tees, sweaters, dresses (yes, even prom or homecoming dresses), heels, your favorite shoes, jewelry, necklaces, dark jeans, worn out jeans, accessories, earrings, headbands, sunglasses – and basically anything you LOVE to wear!
Something different and FUN!
Things that define you – dance stuff, a microphone, guitar
Hair – Avoid changing your hairstyle or cutting your hair right before your session! Let it be natural. Quick easy hairstyle changes during your session are OK, but make it quick or you loose camera time. Artificially bleached hair is often not best, in 10 years you might say "What was I thinking??" Hair should be done BEFORE coming to your session. It IS ok to show up early in curlers if you need to. Tame frizzies and fly a ways with a de-frizzing product. Although I am happy to try to help with hair, it is hard to know what your hair is supposed to look like. So please make sure you like the look or let me know your preferences. Hair style is ultimately YOUR responsibility.
Finger and toe nails – NAILS SHOW! If they have the paint all chipped off, it will show. Many casual shots are done barefoot, so don't forget about those toes! Unless it goes with ALL of your outfits, avoid real bright colors. Natural or basic colors work best. We don't want to draw attention to your neon orange toe nails.
Makeup – makeup should only be slightly heavier than normal. About like you might wear in the evening. Mascara should be clean and contain no clumps. So if your mascara is old and clumpy, replace it first.
Guys What to Wear
Long sleeves look awesome! Darker jeans, colored shirts, solid colors work best, bright colors are fun. Remember to bring lots of choices! Bring sunglasses, black and brown belts, hats.
Things that define you - an instrument, sports equipment, a uniform, guitar
Hair – be careful of changes right before your session. Bleached hair does not look as good in photographs. It is a short trend and you may find it looking real silly once the trend is gone. Natural or maybe frosted tips are better than the white, totally bleached look. You may not even have that by the end of the year.
